Caring For Your Jewellery - Our Top Tips!

 -  Remove your jewellery before spraying perfume. Chemicals in perfumes can damage some metals and gemstones so it is best to apply perfume or cologne first, leave it to dry and then add your jewellery.

- Different metals of different karat weight may rub against each other and wear the softer metal down. If possible, when wearing two or more rings on one finger try to match the metals to avoid this.

- White gold is often rhodium plated to give it extra durability. This rhodium plating may need to be re-plated from time to time.

Caring for your jewellery

- Store jewellery in separate compartments in a jewellery box or in small pocket bags in order to avoid jewellery scratching.

- Whilst creams or moisturisers won’t damage your ring, the oil in these creams may dull the sparkle of your diamond stone until it is polished again.

- Keep jewellery crafted from gold or platinum out of the swimming pool. Chlorine can make the metals more porous which over time can make the setting brittle.

- It is also advised to remove jewellery such as rings before swimming in the ocean, as the cold water can shrink our fingers risking rings to fall off in the water.

- When on holiday many people prefer to leave their precious jewellery at home and wear replacement ‘holiday jewellery’ instead. Often diamonds are replaced with cubic zirconia which are a great temporary and less valuable replacement for diamonds.

- If one of the small pave stones falls out, don’t worry it can be easily replaced by your local jeweller.

- Pearls and ivory can bleach if exposed to extreme sunlight so make sure to keep these delicate materials away from exposure to too much light.

- Use Luke warm soapy water to gently clean your jewellery. A soft toothbrush can also be used.

- Extreme heat can also damage some gemstones. Pearls and opals can both be damaged under intense heat, loosing their colour or developing small cracks.
